TECH-3D: The Standard for Permanent Identification
TECH-3D is our deep embossing process that creates highly raised, three-dimensional characters on metal tags, markers, and plates. The characters are pressed directly into the metal on high tonnage presses, creating bold, cast-like lettering that stays legible for the life of your equipment. Since 1948, TECH-3D has been the industry standard for permanent identification.
TECH-3D 1″ Numbers and Letters
Our 1″ identification characters are available in three material options to match your application requirements.
Three-D 1″ URD Tags (Polyethylene)
Polyethylene tags with high-relief characters. Three-dimensional black characters on a yellow background. The highly raised characters are ideal for underground applications where soil, oil, or dirt may cover the markers, even in dimly lit areas. Not stamped. UV stable, outdoor quality.

TECH-3D 1″ Stainless Steel Embossed
Deep embossed stainless steel tags with high-relief characters. Ideal for underground applications where soil, oil, or dirt may cover the markers. The stainless steel construction provides maximum corrosion resistance.

TECH-3D 1″ Embossed Aluminum
Deep embossed black characters on yellow aluminum. Highly raised characters ideal for above ground applications. Can be used for both horizontal or vertical mounting using vertical or horizontal channel holders.

Aluminum Channel Holders
Custom designed to fit any transmission tower. High strength aluminum for outdoor durability. Holders can be attached using nails, bolts, rivets, magnets, or metal banding. Available for 3″ or 6″ metal tags in horizontal or vertical mounting.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Three-D URD tags and TECH-3D embossed aluminum?
Three-D URD tags are polyethylene with high-relief molded characters (item 3DVKxx). They are UV stable and designed for underground applications. TECH-3D embossed aluminum tags (item SHYxx) are deep embossed metal with black characters on yellow aluminum, ideal for above ground applications. Both provide permanent, highly raised identification. Choose based on your mounting environment.
Can TECH-3D characters be read in underground applications?
Yes. The highly raised characters are specifically designed for underground and dimly lit applications. Even when covered with soil, oil, or dirt, the deep relief of the characters allows identification by touch and visual contrast. Simply wipe the surface and the characters are immediately readable.
What mounting options are available?
We offer poly tag holders (PHTxx), aluminum tag holders (AHTxx), stainless steel tag holders (SSHxx/SSVxx), and aluminum channel holders (CH30yH/CH60yH). All holders can be cut to length and include slots and holes for mounting with nails, straps, cable ties, anchor screws, pop rivets, bolts, or metal banding.
Are horizontal and vertical mounting versions available?
Yes. All TECH-3D character sizes are available in both horizontal and vertical mounting configurations. Specify your orientation when ordering, and we will provide the correct item numbers for your application.
